Central Railway sets weekly, monthly checks at 17 Mumbai stations

Central Railway has ordered regular inspections and deadline-based follow-up for passenger facilities at 75 stations, including 17 in its Mumbai division.

Central Railway has put 75 stations, including 17 in Mumbai division, on a weekly and monthly inspection schedule with repair deadlines.

CSMT, Dadar, Thane, Kalyan, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Panvel are among the stations covered by Central Railway’s tighter inspection programme.

The railway has identified 75 stations across its Mumbai, Bhusawal, Nagpur, Pune and Solapur divisions. Mumbai division has 17 of them; Pune has 21, followed by Bhusawal with 15, Nagpur with 13 and Solapur with nine.

Divisional officers will inspect the selected stations monthly, and supervisors weekly. The checks will cover drinking-water points, toilets, lighting, fans, benches, signage, waiting halls, ticket and reservation counters, catering facilities, platforms and circulating areas.

Station-level teams must document corrective or preventive action for each deficiency and pursue it until closure. Inspection reports are to reach the ADRM or DRM within a week, with department-wise compliance details and a target date for unfinished work.

Ramps, tactile paths, lifts, low-height ticket counters, wheelchairs and accessible toilets will receive specific checks. Central Railway also plans to assign “Guardian Officers” to stations to follow up on recurring problems.
