Construction debris returns to Gurugram roads after MCG clearance

A walled HSVP land parcel near Ghata on Rajesh Pilot Road is being used to dump construction debris, residents said. The site is directly behind several CGHS societies.

Residents also reported heaps of construction and demolition waste, mixed with garbage in places, along Golf Course Extension Road. They protested over dumping on September 13, after which the MCG cleared waste from the road. Fresh debris was spotted on the stretch again this week.

The repeat dumping follows the MCG’s September 11 announcement of a portal for construction-waste pickups and a reduced doorstep collection charge of Rs 50 per tonne for small-scale, non-bulk generators. The civic body said the Basai facility received 7.9 lakh metric tonnes of construction and demolition waste over the past year, including 3.9 lakh metric tonnes from bulk generators.

Gauri Sarin of Making Model Gurgaon and Gurgaon Residents Against Pollution called for police patrols, signboards and a complete disposal system. Sushant Lok-3 resident Sudakshina Laha said enforcement teams should identify repeat offenders and track waste to authorised disposal sites.

MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said the corporation would work with the GMDA to remove the debris and strengthen enforcement along the roads.
