Bengaluru LED streetlight work gets October 31 deadline

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has told officials to complete LED streetlight installation and replacement work across the city by October 31.

Bengaluru officials have been told to finish LED streetlight work by October 31, with penalties for faulty installation and maintenance.

Krishna Byre Gowda has set October 31 as the deadline to complete LED streetlight installation and replacement work across Bengaluru.

After a three-month review, the Greater Bengaluru Development Minister told officials to physically inspect newly installed lights instead of relying only on completion reports. Contractors can face penalties if lights are improperly installed or fail because of maintenance lapses, he said. The Greater Bengaluru Authority has imposed ₹93.67 lakh in fines on contractors for streetlight maintenance failures.

On September 18, Gowda inspected the route from J.P. Nagar towards Bannerghatta NICE Road, where he found several non-functional lights. He also directed officials to replace sodium-vapour lights with LEDs in the East City Corporation area.

Streetlight complaints logged on the Sahaaya 2.0 platform fell from an average of 293 a day in June to 235 a day in October. Residents registered 8,186 complaints between September 1 and October 15, of which officials resolved 6,765.

Officials must submit constituency-wise schedules for installing the Centralised Control and Monitoring System. They must also complete separate control rooms for the four city corporations by October 31.
