Bengaluru airport signs sister-airport pact with Vancouver

Kempegowda International Airport and Vancouver International Airport will collaborate on technology, cargo and efforts to develop a direct Bengaluru–Vancouver service.

Kempegowda International Airport and Vancouver International Airport have agreed to collaborate on technology, operations and cargo, while supporting a potential direct service.

Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has signed a sister-airport agreement with Vancouver International Airport to collaborate on operations, technology, cargo and air connectivity between southern India and western Canada.

The agreement covers seven areas, including airport technology intended to improve operational efficiency. The airports said this could involve Vancouver’s Digital Twin system, emerging tools, and jointly developed or trialled innovation projects.

For Bengaluru travellers, the agreement identifies a direct service to Vancouver as a goal. It does not announce a route or set a timeline for one.

Cargo is another focus. The airports plan to support freight movement between southern India and Canada, including for growing sectors such as technology. Bangalore International Airport Limited chief operating officer Girish Nair said the partnership would focus on digital platforms, data-led decision-making and process optimisation.

The airports said two-way Canada–India trade exceeded $10.9 billion in 2025, and that British Columbia is home to nearly 500,000 people of Indian origin.
