East Delhi traffic police seek road repairs, debris clearance

Traffic police have asked the East Delhi district administration to coordinate urgent action on excavated roads, construction debris and narrow carriageways around Gandhi Nagar, Geeta Colony, Kanti Nagar and Jheel Khurenja.

An October 15 police inspection found excavation, rubble, broken surfaces and parked vehicles narrowing roads in Geeta Colony and nearby areas.

Excavated soil, bricks and broken concrete have narrowed Raja Ram Kohli Marg in Geeta Colony, creating bottlenecks for two-way traffic, Delhi Traffic Police said in a letter to the East Delhi district administration.

During an October 15 field inspection, police also found incomplete excavation and restoration work, uneven surfaces, loose soil and rubble on Swami Dayanand Marg and roads in Jheel Khurenja. Block 1-A in Geeta Colony, Kanti Nagar South and adjoining streets faced similar constraints, while parked private and commercial vehicles further reduced usable road space.

Police said the narrowed roads were forcing pedestrians, cyclists and e-rickshaw riders to share carriageways with motor vehicles. Exposed soil and construction waste were adding to dust as vehicles passed through, and obstructed footpaths and road edges were pushing pedestrians onto the road.

The traffic inspector requested a joint inspection by the MCD, PWD, Delhi Jal Board and other agencies. The letter sought removal of debris, restoration of excavated stretches, dust-control measures and road-safety action, noting that narrow roads could obstruct ambulances and fire tenders.
