Mumbai Indians have parted ways with bowling coaches Lasith Malinga and Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach Carl Hopkinson before IPL 2027.
The departures follow last week’s change at the top of the men’s coaching group, when Kieron Pollard replaced Mahela Jayawardene as head coach. Mumbai Indians said the exits were part of changes to the coaching setup.
Malinga’s association with Mumbai Indians began during his playing career and continued in mentoring and coaching roles. The former Sri Lanka fast bowler was part of four IPL title-winning campaigns with MI and the team’s 2011 Champions League T20 win.
Mhambrey worked with Mumbai Indians from 2010 to 2017 and returned in 2024 after his stint with the Indian team ended. Hopkinson joined before the 2025 IPL season after working with the England men’s team and led MI’s fielding programme.
Mumbai Indians thanked Malinga, Mhambrey and Hopkinson for their service. The franchise has not named replacements.
