BMC sets aside ₹15 lakh per ward for Mumbai road-dust cleanup before Diwali

Mumbai’s wards will run a mechanised cleaning drive from October 28 to November 7, concentrating on arterial and dust-prone roads.

The BMC has allocated ₹15 lakh to each ward for a pre-Diwali drive aimed at reducing road dust during the early winter period. Mechanical sweepers, sprinklers and misting machines will be deployed on major routes, with ward teams required to document daily work.

Mumbai’s 24 wards have been allocated ₹15 lakh each for a road-dust cleanup drive from October 28 to November 7, ahead of Diwali and Mumbai’s winter air-quality season.

The BMC plans to use mechanical sweepers, water sprinklers, misting machines, JCBs, dumpers and litter pickers on major roads and dust-prone stretches. The work will cover medians, dividers, traffic islands, footpaths and kerbs, with collected dust and silt removed for disposal.

Named routes include the BKC Connector, Sion-LBS Connector Road, the Eastern and Western Express Highways, Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Road, SV Road, Link Road, Carter Road and Sion-Mankhurd Road.

Assistant engineers in the Solid Waste Management department will prepare daily action plans with ward-level assistant commissioners. Officials must submit ward-wise daily reports with geo-tagged before-and-after photographs and videos, details of the machinery and staff used, and the waste removed. Zonal engineers may arrange additional resources where needed.
