MCG sets Nov 5, 15 deadlines to repair Gurgaon road sweepers

Seven of Gurgaon’s 20 mechanical road sweepers recorded no movement in an overnight shift, prompting MCG to order inspections and repairs.

MCG has set November 5 and 15 deadlines to repair non-functional road sweepers after seven of 20 machines showed no overnight movement.

Seven of Gurgaon’s 20 mechanical road sweepers recorded no movement during an overnight shift, according to GPS data reviewed by MCG.

Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya has directed officials to inspect the machines’ night-time operations through MCG’s inspection app and submit reports. The agency operating the fleet said it will repair most non-functional sweepers by November 5 and complete the remaining repairs by November 15.

The 13 machines that operated covered 122.7km in total during a 14-hour reporting window. MCG officials said each sweeper is expected to cover at least 30km a day while travelling at 3-5kmph. Four machines operated for more than one hour and five minutes, while one operated for four hours and 15 minutes.

MCG’s clean-air action plan identifies 404.6km of city roads as suitable for mechanical sweeping. Dahiya also asked teams to check roads for dust, garbage, construction and demolition waste, and horticultural waste, while continuing water sprinkling and responding promptly to reports of waste burning.

MCG said sanitation agencies that do not provide the contracted workforce and equipment could face blacklisting. The order follows daily inspections of Gurgaon garbage hotspots.
