Monsoon Wings uses play to introduce children to butterfly life cycles and seasonal migration in India.
Bengaluru-based Nature Classrooms has released Monsoon Wings, a children’s game on butterfly life cycles and migration linked to monsoon cycles.
Monsoon Wings follows a butterfly’s journey from egg to larva, pupa and adult, bringing ecological challenges between those stages into a game.
Bengaluru-based Nature Classrooms has released the resource, conceptualised by Aswathi Asokan, the organisation’s manager for curriculum development and resource training. The game introduces players to butterfly life cycles and seasonal migration in India, including migrations linked to monsoon cycles.
Asokan developed an early text-only version while running biodiversity exploration programmes at Sunnyside Learning School in Chennai. She tested it with children aged seven to 12 and used those sessions to refine the game’s approach.
The game grew from Asokan’s work on field guides, posters and other nature-learning resources, as well as a bird-migration game used in Nature Classrooms workshops. Its focus is butterfly migration around Indian cities and landscapes.
Nature Classrooms intends Monsoon Wings for lessons on insects, migration and changing monsoon seasons.
