Parking at NDMC-run lots, including Connaught Place, now costs twice as much, while MCD’s 400 surface lots await approval for a similar increase.
NDMC doubled parking charges from November 1 as Delhi operates under GRAP-II pollution restrictions, aiming to discourage private-vehicle use. MCD has prepared a fresh proposal but has not yet received approval from its House, leaving its parking tariffs unchanged.
A four-wheeler space at an NDMC off-street parking lot, including those in Connaught Place, now costs Rs 40 an hour, up from Rs 20. The increase took effect on November 1 under anti-pollution measures during GRAP-II restrictions.
Two-wheeler parking at these lots has risen from Rs 10 to Rs 20 an hour, while bus parking is now Rs 200 an hour, up from Rs 150. At indoor and underground facilities, two-wheelers are charged Rs 10 an hour and four-wheelers Rs 20, both double the earlier rates. NDMC officials said on-street charges have also doubled; parking at Bengali Market and Pandara Road Market, for instance, has risen from Rs 50 to Rs 100 an hour.
MCD-run surface parking lots continue to charge existing rates. A proposal to double them is pending approval from the civic body’s House. Earlier proposals for higher fees, including a four-fold increase, were rejected. An MCD official said a revised tariff, if approved, would take effect immediately and remain in force until air quality improves.
