IIT Delhi is the highest-ranked Indian institution in the QS Asia University Rankings 2027, despite slipping seven places from last year.

IIT Delhi ranked 66th in Asia in the 2027 edition, compared with 59th in the previous ranking. The institute also placed 10th in the employer-reputation indicator, while IIT Bombay ranked seventh on that measure.

IIT Delhi has retained its position as India’s highest-ranked university in the QS Asia University Rankings 2027, taking 66th place in the continent-wide list.

The Delhi institute was ranked 59th last year, making this a seven-place fall even as it remained ahead of other Indian institutions in the overall table. The University of Hong Kong held on to the top spot in Asia, followed by Peking University; Tsinghua University moved up to third.

For students and graduates, one of IIT Delhi’s strongest scores was employer reputation, where it ranked 10th in Asia. IIT Bombay took seventh place in the same indicator, putting the two institutes among Asia’s top 10 for employer reputation.

India had 325 ranked universities in this edition, including 34 new entrants, making it Asia’s second most represented higher-education system after Mainland China. Indian institutions performed above the regional average in papers per faculty and staff holding PhDs, while reputation, internationalisation and student exchange were identified as areas needing improvement.
