The tribunal has sought affidavits from the Haryana urban local bodies department and MCG before its next hearing on February 18.

The NGT has asked MCG how it will handle fresh waste at Bandhwari until July 2027, when it expects to match daily processing capacity.

The National Green Tribunal has asked the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram to set out how fresh waste will be handled at Bandhwari landfill between March and July 2027, while a large backlog still awaits processing.

MCG’s November 4 status report listed total waste received at the site at 5.83 million metric tonnes. This included 3.04 million metric tonnes of legacy waste assessed in January 2023 and 2.78 million metric tonnes of fresh waste received through October 2026. The report said 4.353 million metric tonnes had been processed by October 31, leaving 1.47 million metric tonnes.

The tribunal noted that MCG’s timelines for clearing accumulated waste and matching processing capacity with daily waste generation did not appear aligned. MCG has indicated July 31, 2027, as its target to close that gap.

The tribunal also sought details of compost and inert material produced during remediation, their disposal or use, and land reclaimed through processing. MCG has sought Haryana government approval to process the remaining waste after its ongoing agreements.

The Haryana urban local bodies department secretary and the MCG commissioner must file affidavits at least a day before the February 18 hearing.
