With Morbe Dam’s usable stock at 69.16%, NMMC plans to reduce daily extraction from 480 MLD to 400 MLD while limiting non-drinking uses.
NMMC says household supply will not be cut as it curbs potable-water use for gardens, construction and vehicle washing until August 2027.
Morbe Dam’s usable water stock stands at 69.16%, and Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) plans to draw 80 million litres less from the reservoir each day.
NMMC plans to reduce extraction from 480 MLD to 400 MLD. Leader of the House Sagar Naik said household drinking-water supply would not be curtailed. The civic body will instead target non-drinking uses, including garden maintenance, construction activity and vehicle-washing centres.
NMMC uses about 25 to 30 MLD for gardens daily. It plans to shift gardens towards borewell water and treated sewage, use tankers where needed, and install storage tanks. Treated sewage water may also be used for road dividers and other public spaces. The civic body is considering pressure-regulation systems and flow meters to control leaks and monitor consumption.
The usable stock was 73.9% a week earlier. NMMC discussed supplies to its wards, Kharghar and Kamothe, seven Panvel rural-belt villages along the Morbe pipeline, and other connected areas. The measures are intended to stretch Morbe Dam reserves until August 2027, while a new dam is planned as an alternative source with a three-year completion target.
