At a Mumbai press meet, Varun Dhawan said the 2027 IIFA Awards should give films and technicians more attention.
Varun Dhawan, making his IIFA hosting debut, said award shows should recognise films, performances and behind-the-camera crews. The event is set for Abu Dhabi on January 22 and 23, 2027.
Varun Dhawan said he wants the 2027 IIFA Awards to be “only about films”, with more attention for performances and technicians.
Speaking at a Mumbai press meet on Thursday, Dhawan said technicians had not always received the respect they deserved. “I am a technician’s son,” he said.
Salman Khan, who was also on stage, said recognition for technicians had improved. Dhawan agreed and said Khan had ensured technicians would be respected at this edition.
Dhawan will host the awards with Ananya Panday, Karan Johar and Maniesh Paul. Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Janhvi Kapoor are expected to perform.
The 27th IIFA Weekend Awards are scheduled for Abu Dhabi on January 22 and 23, 2027, honouring Hindi films released in 2026. The Mumbai event marked the public launch of the awards programme.
