Parking and encroachments slow trans-Hindon roads in Ghaziabad

Residents cite roadside parking and passenger pick-ups as causes of regular bottlenecks on roads in Indirapuram, Vaishali and Vasundhara.

Roads near Ramprastha City, St Francis School and Makanpur are regular bottlenecks. Police say they towed 158 cars in Indirapuram in September.

Commuter Priti Singh said a 100-150 metre stretch outside the Sector 4 market on Dharam Marg can narrow to a single moving lane during the evening rush. Haphazard parking and e-rickshaw passenger pick-ups delay traffic there, she said.

Other regular bottlenecks include roads outside Ramprastha City in Vaishali, the U-turn near St Francis School in Indirapuram, and the Makanpur route linking the two areas. Kaveri Marg near the gurdwara, the Aditya Mall roundabout, and roads outside Shipra Mall, Habitat Centre and Windsor Market also see tailbacks.

A 2018 Central Road Research Institute survey commissioned by the Ghaziabad Development Authority found that illegal parking occupied road space equivalent to 450 cars at several locations. The survey counted space for 287 cars outside SRS Cinemas and 128 cars on CISF Road.

ADCP (Traffic) Varun Singh said 261 traffic personnel and four marshals are deployed across trans-Hindon. Police issued 3,458 challans for traffic violations last month, while two cranes in Indirapuram towed 158 cars in September. Under the “Do Gaz Peechhe” drive, officials removed encroachments at 60 locations and took action against 135 people.
