The Thane Municipal Corporation has approved permanent rehabilitation homes for 59 eligible families from Bandal Chawl in Naupada, linked to the proposed suburban railway station project between Thane and Mulund.
The civic body said a biometric survey identified the 59 families as eligible for rehabilitation. At a meeting at the civic headquarters, residents were offered a choice between temporary rental accommodation and permanent homes under the Project Affected Persons (PAP) framework. They chose permanent housing.
The homes will come from PAP quota units that the TMC acquired from the Slum Rehabilitation Authority. The families agreed to pay the required administrative charges.
The TMC is working with Indian Railways on the proposed station project and is responsible for feeder roads and related infrastructure around the site. Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao approved the rehabilitation plan after discussions with MP Naresh Mhaske and Additional Municipal Commissioner Prashant Rode.
The TMC will begin the process of transferring the PAP units to the 59 families.
