Barapullah signals go live at Ring Road and DND merge points

Delhi Traffic Police is testing signal timings where the old Barapullah corridor meets the Ring Road and DND Flyway near Sarai Kale Khan.

Delhi Traffic Police has activated two signals at Barapullah merge points near Sarai Kale Khan and plans two more near Sun Dial Park and Kilokari.

Two traffic signals are now operating at Barapullah merge points where vehicles join the Ring Road towards Sarai Kale Khan and the DND Flyway towards Noida.

Delhi Traffic Police activated the signals on Sunday after traffic surveys found prolonged queues around Sarai Kale Khan following the September 29 opening of Barapullah Phase III and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway connection. The signal poles had stood unused for more than three years, when traffic volumes were lower.

The Barapullah-DND signal will operate round the clock. The signal on the Ring Road carriageway towards the Millennium Park-ITO flyover will operate from 3pm to 9pm and remain on blinker mode outside those hours. Police are testing combinations including 30 seconds of green time with waits of 50 or 70 seconds, and may revise them as traffic patterns become clearer.

One commuter said a 70-second red and 20-second green cycle at the DND merge could lengthen the queue. The changes follow earlier diversions around Barapullah Phase III.

Police plan to install signals at the Sun Dial Park loop and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway-Ring Road junction near Kilokari within a fortnight.
