Western Railway’s Mumbai Central division has installed two machines at Mumbai Central station to collect and recycle plastic bottle waste.
The installation marked the close of Swachhata Pakhwada 2026 activities in the Mumbai Central division. The fortnight also included waste-segregation drives, food and water quality checks, coach cleaning and anti-littering enforcement across stations and railway facilities.
Two plastic bottle-crushing machines have been commissioned at Mumbai Central station for the collection and recycling of plastic bottles.
Divisional Railway Manager Pankaj Singh inaugurated the machines with Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Adish Pathania and other railway officers as the Mumbai Central division concluded its Swachhata Pakhwada 2026 programme. The division began the cleanliness campaign at Churchgate earlier this month.
Western Railway said it also ran waste-segregation exercises at Jogeshwari, Borivali, Goregaon, Malad, Khar Road and Andheri, covering wet, dry, sanitary and hazardous waste. Housekeeping staff, pantry workers, vendors and station sanitation teams attended awareness sessions on segregation and hygiene.
Cleaning teams worked at the Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus coaching depots. Railway teams inspected stalls, base kitchens and catering establishments, including at Marine Lines and Bandra Terminus, and tested water samples for quality. Anti-littering penalties and passenger counselling continued during the drive.
