Goofy topped a 64-dog online tournament that organisers said drew more than two lakh votes over six knockout rounds.

Goofy, a street dog from Nagarbhavi, won the Fat Dogs of Bengaluru online contest. Organisers said donations will support animal welfare groups.

Goofy, a street dog from Nagarbhavi, has won the Fat Dogs of Bengaluru contest after six knockout rounds and an online poll that organisers said drew more than two lakh votes.

Bachonker McChonketh, from Neon Market in Indiranagar, finished second in the 64-dog tournament. Organisers said entries opened at the end of September, asking residents to submit a photograph, name and neighbourhood for street dogs they knew. They said hundreds responded within five days and that they selected 64 contenders.

The online bracket featured dogs from across the city, including Mr Gundumani from SP Road, Vasu from RR Nagar and Jonathan Joestar from Sahakarnagar. A map on the contest website marks the areas where participating dogs live.

Mazin Mohamed Iqbal, who helped drive the initiative, said it was intended as a community activity modelled on a similar online contest in Delhi. Organisers said they did not run paid promotions or monetise the contest page.

Emergent, which helped create the contest website, has pledged a donation to Charlie’s Animal Rescue Centre. Fave has also said it will donate ₹1,000 for every 100 app downloads. Iqbal said attention from the contest could help dogs receive medical care where needed.
