Gurugram Dussehra: Society effigies ranged from 15 to 40 feet

Sobha City burned a 40-foot Ravan effigy, while other Gurugram societies used smaller structures based on available space and safety considerations.

Sobha City burned a 40-foot Ravan effigy before more than 600 residents, while other Gurugram societies held smaller Dussehra events.

A 40-foot Ravan effigy, secured with ropes on all four sides, went up in flames at Sobha City as more than 600 residents gathered for Dussehra.

The society, home to about 2,000 residents across 15 towers, had burned a 20-foot effigy last year. Its governing body said it organised the in-house event so families would not need to travel elsewhere for Ravan Dahan. The ritual was held on the society's 40-acre grounds.

At Ansal Heights in Sector 92, the Ravan effigy was limited to 15 feet because of space constraints and concerns that a taller structure could fall after being lit. The programme also included food, games, shopping stalls and a Dandiya evening attended by 250 to 300 people.

At Microtek Greenburg in Sector 86, residents burned an 18-foot Ravan effigy and a 15-foot Meghnad effigy.

Near Harish Bakery in Sector 31-32, the Shree Ram Charit Maanas Ramlila Committee held its ninth annual event, burning 30-foot effigies of Ravan, Meghnad and Kumbhakarna at around 9pm. A fire engine with seven to eight firefighters and an ambulance were deployed at the venue.
