Central Railway plans to convert 18 existing Kalyan–Kasara local services from 12 to 15 coaches, adding about 25% capacity per trip.
Central Railway plans to convert 18 Kalyan–Kasara locals to 15 coaches after Diwali, subject to Titwala platform work expected by November 15.
Eighteen existing Kalyan–Kasara local services are planned to run with 15 coaches after Diwali, replacing 12-coach trains on the corridor.
For passengers travelling from Kasara, Asangaon, Vasind, Khadavli and Titwala towards Mumbai, each longer service would carry about 25% more people without adding trips. Central Railway intends the change to ease peak-hour boarding and alighting on the route.
Central Railway has carried out track, signalling and overhead-equipment work at Titwala, including a 15-day traffic and power block. Platform-extension work and platform shelters are being completed there, with the extension expected to finish by November 15.
Central Railway currently runs 54 15-coach suburban services, including 32 services on the Karjat–Khopoli section converted in August. If the Kalyan–Kasara plan is implemented, the total would rise to 72.
