Bengaluru outbound buses delayed until 2.30am amid rain, Dasara rush

Passengers leaving Bengaluru for Dasara faced hours-long delays on Tumakuru Road and Hosur Road as rain, bus traffic and bottlenecks slowed key exits from the city.

Rain and Dasara travel delayed buses leaving Bengaluru on Friday night. Tumakuru Road cleared around 2.30am, while queues formed on Hosur Road.

A KSRTC bus bound for Mangaluru took more than three-and-a-half hours to travel from Navarang theatre to Goraguntepalya on Friday night. Passengers at Govardhan theatre waited for hours as buses moved slowly through the corridor.

Dasara travel and evening rain clogged Bengaluru’s main outbound roads, with Tumakuru Road among the worst-hit corridors. Traffic police said the Yeshwantpur–Goraguntepalya stretch typically handles 800 to 900 buses on a weekend, but the number rises beyond 2,500 during festive and long weekends. Congestion extended to Navarang theatre, Chord Road, Sankey Tank Road, CV Raman Road and parts of the Outer Ring Road.

Police deployed more than 12 personnel near Govardhan theatre. Officers said limited road space and the lack of bus bays and shelters led some drivers to stop on the road to pick up passengers, narrowing the congested corridor further.

On Hosur Road, traffic built up near Chandapura and along the Attibele–Bommasandra stretch. Officers cited rain, waterlogging near Chandapura, and pending work by NHAI and K-Ride as contributing factors.

Plans to widen the Govardhan theatre stretch, build bus bays and use the Basaveshwara bus terminal in Peenya for long-distance services have not moved forward.
