MCD has added a waste-compactor transfer station in Sarita Vihar, sanitation vehicles and 50 litter-picker machines.
A fixed waste-compactor transfer station was inaugurated in Sarita Vihar alongside new vehicles for door-to-door garbage collection and transport.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the facility and flagged off the sanitation vehicles, which will be operated by 35 women drivers. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi also flagged off 50 litter-picker machines, part of its plan to deploy 1,000 machines to collect waste from streets.
Gupta said Delhi generates nearly 15,000 tonnes of waste each day, while its earlier processing capacity was 6,000 to 7,000 tonnes daily. She said the government is working on new waste-to-energy plants, expanded capacity at existing plants, e-waste centres and biogas plants for cow dung.
