The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram held a workshop in Badshahpur on Friday to help sanitation workers identify and prevent open burning of waste.
MCG trained more than 100 sanitation workers in Badshahpur to identify, report and discourage open waste burning under CAQM directions.
More than 100 sanitation workers gathered at Badshahpur’s community centre on Friday for an MCG workshop focused on stopping open waste burning.
Joint commissioner Sapna Yadav asked workers to watch for burning in their respective areas, report incidents and speak with residents about the effects of the practice. The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram organised the session under directions from the Commission for Air Quality Management.
Two trainers explained how open burning affects air quality, the environment and public health, and discussed ways to discourage residents from setting mixed waste alight. Ward 18 councillor Jyoti Jaildar told workers that preventing burning and keeping the city clean required public participation.
The training is part of MCG’s effort to address local pollution sources, including waste burning and construction dust. Sanitation inspector Jitender, sanitation brand ambassador Kuldeep Hindustani and IEC expert Prinka Yadav also attended the programme.
