PWD is preparing to tender a redesign beneath the ITO flyover, with parking, a cafeteria, landscaped areas and office facilities proposed.
The space beneath the ITO flyover could get a cafeteria, organised parking and landscaped areas under a PWD redevelopment plan that is set to go out for tender.
A consultant has submitted a design proposing ramps, designated entry and exit points, and a PWD control room with seating for 40 to 50 people. The plan also includes conference rooms and cabins. PWD intends to organise a stretch currently used for parking or left neglected.
PWD has identified 50 flyovers for similar upgrades from a longer list of 93 structures. The list covers corridors on Ring Road and Outer Ring Road, as well as sites at Wazirabad, Ashram, Geeta Colony, Mukundpur and Rani Jhansi.
Some under-flyover spaces already serve other purposes. Fenced parks operate beneath the Lajpat Nagar and Moti Nagar flyovers, while departmental offices are located below the Sukhdev Vihar and Indraprastha flyovers.
The longer sites identified for possible development include the 2,650-metre New RTR flyover, the 2,000-metre Rani Jhansi flyover and the 1,600-metre Zakhira flyover. The ITO proposal is expected to be the first project to go out for tender.
