4,000 women to receive Lakshmi Yojana approval letters in Delhi on Wednesday

Four thousand women are scheduled to receive approval letters for Delhi’s Lakshmi Yojana on Wednesday, August 26. The Delhi government says the first monthly assistance payments will begin reaching eligible beneficiaries’ bank accounts on September 1.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will hand over the letters. Under the scheme, eligible women aged 21 to 60 will receive Rs 2,500 a month directly in their bank accounts. The benefit is intended for the eldest eligible woman in a family.

Applications opened on August 1. In the following 25 days, 9,13,495 women registered and 6,52,223 submitted final applications.

According to the government’s eligibility rules, applicants must have lived in Delhi for at least 10 years, hold a valid voter ID and belong to a family with an annual income below Rs 2.5 lakh. Women who pay income tax, are government employees or pensioners, or receive another pension are excluded. The rules also exclude households that own a four-wheeler, use more than 2,400 electricity units annually or have more than three children.
