Gurugram rain floods roads, causes 10km Delhi-bound queue on NH-48

Gurugram received 44.5 mm of rain, and waterlogging near Shiv Murti disrupted the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, leaving commuters in a queue that stretched nearly 10 km by 6.30 pm.

Gurugram traffic police said the jam extended from Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur to Udyog Vihar Phase IV. Several commuters said they spent four to five hours in traffic, with some unable to cover six kilometres in three hours. Police diverted Delhi-bound vehicles from Iffco Chowk towards Aya Nagar via MG Road.

Sheetla Mata Road, MG Road, Palam Vihar, NH-48 and internal roads in Manesar were among the affected stretches. Water also accumulated on roads and outside residential gates in sectors 9A, 10, 15 Part 2, 17A and 31, bringing some two-wheelers and smaller cars to a halt.

Brigadier Sukhbir Singh, vice-president of the Palam Vihar RWA, said water collects at Vyapar Kendra, Krishna Chowk and other blocks because drainage is inadequate. Meteorologists linked the rain spell to a monsoon trough and a low-pressure area over southwest Uttar Pradesh.
