56 women-only buses begin Delhi runs, including 26 on university routes

Twenty-six of Delhi’s 56 new women-only buses will run on 13 routes serving Delhi University, connecting colleges including Hindu College, Ramjas College, Daulat Ram College, Shri Ram College of Commerce and Hansraj College with major residential areas.

The remaining 30 buses will operate on 15 high-demand routes during morning and evening peak hours. Their network covers Nehru Place, AIIMS, Connaught Place, ITO, Karol Bagh and Kashmere Gate. Officials said women police personnel and Home Guards would be deployed on board, with female staff operating the services. The buses will also have panic buttons integrated with Delhi Police’s 112 emergency response system.

The same event saw 200 electric buses join the DTC fleet: 88 12-metre buses and 112 nine-metre DEVI buses. Gupta said the electric fleet had crossed 5,000 buses and the overall DTC fleet had reached 6,800.

DTC also launched five air-conditioned buses between Kashmere Gate and Karnal, making 10 trips in each direction daily via Singhu border, Murthal, Panipat and other stops. Rajghat Depot-1 now has a public charging station with four 240-kW chargers.
