667 Gurugram PGs lack fire NOCs or safety equipment, officials say

Around 80 tenants were staying in 45 micro-rooms at a five-storey PG in U-Block, DLF Phase 3, where a single internal staircase, less than three feet wide, served as the only entry and exit. The building had no exterior fire escape, hose reels or automated sprinklers.

Fire department officials said 667 PG accommodations inspected so far lacked a fire NOC or adequate fire-safety equipment. They said more than 350 accommodations have received show-cause notices.

Officials reported similar gaps in Dundahera and Sector 39, including buildings without fire extinguishers and lanes too narrow for easy vehicle access.

Nishant Kumar, who works in Cyber City and lives near U-Block, said the location and rent made the accommodation his most viable option. PG rents in the area ranged from ₹6,000 for double sharing to ₹13,000.

Rules generally allow stilt-plus-four residential buildings on roads at least 10 metres wide; roads measuring nine metres or less are limited to stilt-plus-three structures. Several inspected buildings had up to six floors and were being used as PGs.
