70 mm rain leaves Gurugram roads waterlogged; Delhi-Jaipur Expressway traffic slows

An elderly man waded through knee-deep water beside his partly submerged scooty in Gurugram after about an hour of rain on Monday.

The district administration said the city had received 70 mm of rainfall by 1.30 pm and announced work from home to manage the situation. Residents reported waterlogging in Patel Nagar, which they described as the worst-hit area, as well as Rajiv Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Railway Road, Sector 5, Old Delhi Road, Mehrauli Road and Basai Road.

Traffic slowed sharply on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway. Commuters said the Signature Tower–Hero Honda Chowk stretch, usually covered in about 15 minutes, took at least 50 minutes. A section near Cyber Hub, opposite Gateway Tower Metro station, was submerged.

Sheetla Mata Road was also badly affected. It has been among the city’s flood-prone stretches this monsoon, following earlier hazardous conditions on dug-up Gurugram roads. Drivers were seen abandoning stalled cars, while two-wheeler riders pushed their vehicles through waterlogged roads.
