75mm rain leaves Gurgaon roads flooded and commuters stuck for hours

Seventy-five millimetres of rain fell on Gurgaon between 8am and 5pm on Monday, leaving school buses stranded at Subhash Chowk and commuters wading through flooded roads.

Udyog Vihar, Rajiv Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Golf Course Road, IFFCO Chowk, Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road, Sheetla Mata Temple Road, Sohna Road, Vatika Chowk and Narsingpur were among the affected stretches. Traffic also slowed on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, MG Road and connecting routes as vehicles broke down in waterlogged sections.

Abhinav Shukla, who left Udyog Vihar at about 11.30am, said it took him around 90 minutes to reach Rajiv Chowk. The onward trip to the district court, usually five minutes, took another 30 minutes.

Traffic police deployed drones to track flooded locations and stationed personnel at major junctions. Elsewhere in the district, Badshapur received 65mm of rain and Wazirabad 64mm during the same period.
