A Bengaluru family’s budget lists ₹1.47 lakh in monthly costs

A Bengaluru Reddit user has listed household expenses of ₹1.47 lakh a month for a family of three, including rent, childcare, food and insurance.

The user, who said they live with a spouse and toddler, listed ₹45,000 for rent, ₹20,000 for a nanny, ₹9,000 for a cook, ₹3,000 for a maid and ₹1,000 for a car cleaner. They put utilities at ₹4,000, food and groceries at ₹20,000, insurance at ₹25,000 and hometown spending at ₹20,000.

The figures total ₹1.47 lakh a month. The user said the household spends more than ₹1 lakh monthly without extravagance and asked how it could plan for Financial Independence, Retire Early, or FIRE.

They also asked whether returning to a Tier-2 city could make that goal more attainable. Some commenters said domestic help can be necessary when both adults have demanding jobs, while others said households face comparable costs in other major cities.
