Delhi public spaces captured in moments of solitude

A man in a black suit sits on a cement ledge near Anil Book Corner in Connaught Place after sundown, without a phone in hand. Cars and autorickshaws fill the one-way road behind him; lit shopfronts face him across the traffic.

The same separation appears in small intervals across Delhi. On Asaf Ali Road, a bird rests on an electric wire amid cranes, crossing cables and a hospital high-rise under construction. In Lodhi Garden after rain, a man sits beneath a tree with a red bag beside him, facing a broad puddle that reflects his outline.

At JLN Stadium Metro station, a crowded train opens its doors and takes in passengers from the platform. When it departs, one man is left behind. In Khan Market, two people sit on the same sofa with a visible gap between them under yellow interior light.

One older scene is set in South Extension I, where Metro construction had opened a deep trench in a shopping-area yard. A security guard in a blue shirt sits on a steel beam above the excavation, surrounded by pipes, rubble and metal.

At sunset on the lawn along Kartavya Path, with street lamps switched on and Rashtrapati Bhavan beside the sinking sun, another man sits alone with his shoes off, looking west.
