Aga Khan V meets Shahzada Husain Burhanuddin in Mumbai

Prince Rahim Aga Khan V met Shahzada Husain Burhanuddin, son of Dawoodi Bohra spiritual leader Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, in Mumbai on Monday, the Dawoodi Bohra administrative office said.

The meeting brought together figures from the Nizari Ismaili and Dawoodi Bohra traditions. A spokesperson for the office said it reflected longstanding warmth and mutual respect between the two communities.

The discussion covered the communities’ work in education, healthcare and welfare, the spokesperson said. It also offered an opportunity to reflect on “the shared paths” taken in serving humanity.

The Nizari and Dawoodi Bohra traditions trace their roots to the Ismaili branch of Shia Islam, although their religious lineages diverged over centuries. Aga Khan V is the hereditary Imam of the Nizari Ismaili community. Dawoodi Bohras follow the Tayyibi Musta’li tradition and recognise the Syedna as their spiritual leader and representative of an Imam in seclusion.
