Alice’s Bengaluru puzzle: traffic rules and rain five minutes apart

Alice, a German woman living in Bengaluru, has put two familiar city experiences at the centre of a short Instagram video: traffic and weather that can turn without much warning.

“Apparently, there are rules, but why is everyone driving like this?” she said, describing her confusion over how people navigate Bengaluru’s roads. She then turned to the weather: “It was sunny five minutes ago, but now it’s raining.”

Her clip drew responses from people who recognised both observations. Some pointed her towards the city’s dosas, idlis, biryani and other food instead; others suggested Bengaluru’s density helps explain why its traffic can feel disorderly.

The weather observation also found agreement, with one commenter describing rain across seasons as part of the Bengaluru experience. For Alice, though, the quick switch from sunshine to rain remained one of the city’s harder rhythms to process.
