Alpha 1 post office in Greater Noida reports monsoon leaks

Staff at the Alpha 1 post office in Greater Noida say monsoon leaks are disrupting work, with buckets placed beneath dripping sections of the roof and plastic sheets used to protect work areas.

The office operates from the first floor of a G+1 building in C Block, Alpha 1, which postal staff said was handed over to the department in 2008. It handles Speed Post, parcel bookings, registered mail and Aadhaar updates, and receives about 400 to 500 visitors a day, according to the office.

Sumit Kumar Yadav, the sub-postmaster, said rainwater has entered through several sections of the roof and walls since the monsoon began, leaving water on floors in the premises. He said heavy overnight rain recently reached four computers and other electronic equipment after the office had closed, affecting their use and disrupting operations.

Postal staff have written to the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) twice seeking repairs, Yadav said. They have raised concerns about possible damage to official records, electrical installations and other government property, as well as safety risks for visitors and employees.

Residents may face inconvenience in accessing parcel-booking, postal and Aadhaar-related services during periods of heavy rain. GNIDA deputy general manager Vijay Rawal said the authority would check whether the building falls under its jurisdiction and take necessary steps.
