Mumbai students make clay Ganpati idols at BMC-backed workshop

Around 50 school students and young people gathered at Free Press House in Mumbai on Wednesday to make Ganpati idols from shaalu mati clay ahead of Ganeshotsav.

The workshop, organised with the BMC, was led by Prashant Iphte, Vaibhav More, Mayuresh Andhyal, Maheshwari Dhore, Siddharth Gaikwad and Kiran Kesarkar from Sir J.J. School of Architecture. They demonstrated each stage of clay modelling, from building a base and shaping the body to adding facial details.

Participants were encouraged to use natural, water-based pigments rather than synthetic dyes. The mentors also demonstrated how a clay idol can be immersed in a bucket at home instead of in the city’s water bodies.

Members of Ratnanidhi Charitable Trust and Ghaswala Vision Foundation attended the session, along with actors Vaishnavi Andhale, Siddharth Menon and Tejas Raut.
