Basavanagudi: B Ganesh Babu’s Japan sketches open at IIWC

Thirty-five sketches trace architect B Ganesh Babu’s encounters with Japan at the Indian Institute of World Culture’s art gallery in Basavanagudi.

Titled *Sketching Japan – An Architect’s Visual Journey*, the exhibition brings together work made during Babu’s travels through the country. He works in pen and ink on paper as well as digital media, describing his travel sketches as “Drawelogues” — visual records of places he has visited and the impressions they left on him.

Babu, who was born in south Bengaluru and studied in Basavanagudi, has worked in architecture and interior design for nearly four decades. His interest in sketching began at school, when he drew cartoons, some of which appeared in Kannada newspapers and magazines.

Among the works he singles out are renderings of Tulasi Thota, a Krishna temple in Bengaluru, and Fukushima Palace in Japan. He plans to turn his attention next to Bengaluru’s temples, their architecture, histories and memories.

The show runs until September 1 at IIWC, BG Wadia Road, Basavanagudi. Entry is free; visiting hours are 10am to 6.30pm. Details: 9243120831.
