Delhi: Book on Savile Row tailor Andrew Ramroop launched at India Habitat Centre

Professor Andrew M Ramroop wore a suit he made for himself in 2002 as he spoke at the India Habitat Centre on Saturday about bespoke tailoring, durability, individuality and craft.

The occasion was the Delhi launch of *Bespoken: From Tunapuna to Buckingham Palace*, written by Ashok Kumar Bal. The book follows Ramroop’s childhood in Trinidad, his Indian ancestry, his move to London and his work as a tailor on Savile Row.

Bal said the project began after he spotted a Savile Row Bespoke Academy certificate bearing Ramroop’s name at a Mumbai tailor’s shop. His research became a book about Ramroop’s work, teaching and mentoring, alongside his approach to craftsmanship.

“This suit speaks what *Bespoken* is all about: sustainability,” Ramroop said of the garment. “Fashion is a moving target, but style and elegance outlast fashion.”

Sunil Sethi, chairman of the Fashion Design Council of India, presided over the launch, which drew people from Delhi’s design, fashion and literary circles.
