Gurugram: Attempt-to-murder charge added in Golf Course Road crash

Delhi resident Shivani Chauhan, known as Sia, was riding with a group of bikers on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road when a white Maruti Ciaz allegedly struck her motorcycle between 7.15am and 7.30am on Sunday.

Police said footage from cameras mounted on Chauhan’s and her friends’ motorcycles, along with CCTV footage, indicated that the car chased her before allegedly hitting the motorcycle. Chauhan was thrown from the motorcycle and her bike skidded nearly 100 metres, police said. After Chauhan posted footage of the crash online, police took suo motu cognisance of the matter.

The Sector 56 police station initially registered an FIR under provisions relating to rash driving and endangering life. After recording Chauhan’s statement, police added Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions relating to attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, stalking and acts intended to insult a woman’s modesty.

Police identified the two arrested men as Kalyan Bainsla, 33, and his cousin Lavnish, 34, both from Chandhut in Palwal. They were arrested in Dausa, Rajasthan, on Tuesday, police said. Investigators said they would produce the men in court and seek two days’ remand.
