Bandra police halt Gaiety-Galaxy screenings over licence, cable concerns

Bandra police have stopped film screenings at Gaiety-Galaxy after saying the cinema complex’s entertainment licence had not been renewed since 2021.

Police issued a notice to the theatre management on Sunday and displayed it outside the Bandra complex. Shows stopped from Monday, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg said the police issue the entertainment licence and that the management had not renewed it for several years.

Police also said they found burnt electrical cables at the complex and cited a potential safety risk for moviegoers. They have registered an FIR under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The competent authority will decide whether the complex can resume operations after the licence fees are paid, Garg said.
