Basai pipeline leak disrupts water supply in parts of Gurgaon

A leak near Basai disrupted water supply in several parts of Gurgaon on Thursday, affecting households from Civil Lines and Sector 14 to DLF phases 1 to 4.

The damaged 1,300mm rising main carries treated water from the Basai water treatment plant to the Sector 16 boosting station, serving old Gurgaon colonies and residential, commercial and industrial areas. GMDA executive engineer Abhinav Verma said teams detected the leak late on Wednesday night and began repairs, but overnight rain delayed the work. Supply was expected to resume by Thursday evening.

Basai village, Kadipur, Chakarpur, Nathupur, Sikanderpur, Garhi, Hans Enclave, and sectors 10A, 14, 15, 17, 18, 27 to 32, 34, 37, 39 to 41 and 43 were among the affected areas. Udyog Vihar phases 1 to 5, Sushant Lok-1 and South City-1 also faced disruption.

GMDA said the existing line was built for 170 MLD but is carrying nearly 200 MLD. A ₹51-crore replacement project approved in March is planned to raise capacity to 311 MLD; GMDA is procuring materials and pursuing permissions for work along NH-8.
