Mumbai: Port of Antwerp-Bruges plans India delegation for February 2027

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever said the Port of Antwerp-Bruges will bring a business delegation to India in February 2027 to explore projects in ports, logistics, chemicals and energy.

Speaking at a dialogue on the India-European Union free trade agreement at Mumbai’s Jio Convention Centre on Friday, De Wever said the delegation would include companies and representatives from terminals, logistics, chemicals and energy.

“We are not coming to discuss what we might do; we are coming to agree on what we are going to do together,” he said.

De Wever named green hydrogen as a potential area of cooperation. He said India is expanding production while Belgium aims to become a North-West European importer of green molecules.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal proposed deeper India-Belgium collaboration on lab-grown diamonds, including technology and certification. He suggested linking Antwerp with Mumbai and Surat, which he described as central to India’s diamond-processing ecosystem.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Maharashtra wanted to be the first state to turn the proposed partnership into projects. If Belgium identifies a project, he said, the state will assign a team to work with Belgian counterparts and fast-track it.

The delegation is scheduled to visit India in February 2027.
