Bengaluru accounts for 30% of Akasa Air pet journeys

More than 3,700 cats and dogs have travelled to or from Kempegowda International Airport on Akasa Air since November 2022, giving Bengaluru the largest share of the airline’s pet travel bookings in India.

Bengaluru accounted for more than 30% of the airline’s 13,500-plus pet journeys nationwide under its Pets on Akasa service. Pet journeys from the city rose from 856 in 2024 to 1,310 in 2026, an increase of 53%, Akasa Air said.

Dogs made up 60% of pet travel linked to Bengaluru, while cats accounted for the remaining 40%. Travellers from the city most often flew with pets to Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati. Those routes accounted for more than 55% of pet flights from Bengaluru over the past three financial years.

Akasa Air connects pet travellers from Bengaluru to 16 destinations, up from 10 when the service began. The airline allows cats and dogs on domestic flights in the cabin or cargo hold, depending on their weight. For cabin travel, the pet and carrier together must weigh no more than 10kg.
