Bengaluru-based CA Sreyans Jain said a full August salary reached his account on September 1, despite his last working day being July 31.
Sreyans Jain, a Bengaluru-based chartered accountant, said his former employer credited a full August salary to his account on September 1, a month after his last working day on July 31.
In a LinkedIn post, Jain said the payment was for “a job I hadn’t shown up to in a month”. He said he expected the company’s payroll or finance team to identify the error, but received no email, call or message the following day.
Jain said he then wrote to the company’s founders, explained the payment and asked for bank details to return it. Human resources contacted him within hours, he said, and the money was transferred back within about 48 hours of reaching his account.
Jain said the episode pointed to a gap in the company’s offboarding and payroll checks. His account could not be independently verified.
