Bengaluru draft parking rules propose residential permits up to ₹25,000

A Bengaluru resident parking an SUV on a residential street could pay at least ₹25,000 a year under draft rules issued by the Karnataka government on August 11.

The proposed Greater Bengaluru Authority (Parking) Rules, 2026, set minimum annual permit fees of ₹15,000 for hatchbacks, ₹20,000 for sedans and ₹25,000 for SUVs. City corporations could also add an administrative charge fixed by the GBA Chief Commissioner.

The draft says city corporations may allow parking on residential streets, other than arterial and sub-arterial roads, only for vehicles holding permits from the relevant corporation.

Each corporation would form a parking task force involving its commissioner, police, RTO officers and traffic-engineering officials. The task force would prepare area-wise parking plans, organise on-street parking while retaining space for footpaths and bus bays, develop facilities on corporation land, and lease or permit the use of private vacant plots for parking.

The rules also propose a wider paid-parking framework for city corporations.
