Bengaluru GBA to review potholes, garbage and streetlights monthly

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said a three-member committee will meet every month to review potholes, garbage, streetlights and other civic issues across the city’s five corporations.

Gowda, the Additional Chief Secretary and the Chief Commissioner will serve on the committee. Gowda said Bengaluru’s administration needed to improve so residents did not have to make repeated visits to government offices to get problems addressed.

The Sahaaya platform has received 75,152 complaints so far, with 73,985 marked resolved and 1,167 pending. Gowda asked officials to clear delayed cases quickly and review some complaints closed by senior officials before submitting a report.

The portal is set for a software upgrade, followed by a consultation with citizens on further changes. From September, camera-mounted vehicles are to begin city rounds to identify potholes for quicker repairs.

Gowda said road asphalting and white-topping are planned on about 2,500 km of roads at a cost of ₹8,000 crore. Of the 840 km of stormwater drains within GBA limits, 640 km have been developed; work on the remaining 200 km is estimated to cost ₹2,000 crore.
