Sailesh Gurung, who started as a fresher at TCS before joining Microsoft, described differences in workplace structure, dress norms and ownership based on his own experience.
Bengaluru professional Sailesh Gurung compared his experiences at TCS and Microsoft, discussing hierarchy, workplace amenities and accountability.
Sailesh Gurung, a Bengaluru-based technology professional, said his view of corporate work changed after he moved from TCS, where he began as a fresher, to Microsoft.
In a social-media video, Gurung said he encountered more visible hierarchies and approval layers in his TCS role. At Microsoft, he said, he found it easier to approach people across teams directly and experienced what he described as a flatter structure.
He also compared dress expectations. Gurung said his TCS workplace had more formal norms, while Microsoft expected employees to be presentable without a prescribed dress code.
Gurung said Microsoft’s campus offered hackathons, cross-team events, gaming zones and informal spaces, as well as food, coffee, rest areas and massage chairs. He also mentioned an option to bring family or friends to campus on weekends.
The main difference, he said, was how work was assigned and carried through. Gurung described his TCS role as shift-based, with tasks handed between employees. At Microsoft, he said, he held end-to-end responsibility for assignments, bringing greater accountability as well as opportunities for growth and compensation.
Gurung said both organisations taught him different lessons and that his comparison reflected his own experience, not a broader judgement of either company.
