Bengaluru Blue Line to airport targets full opening by March 2028

Bengaluru’s 58 km Blue Line to Kempegowda International Airport is targeted to be fully operational by March 2028, Krishna Byre Gowda said.

The Central Silk Board–KR Pura corridor is expected to begin commercial services by mid-2027. BMRCL plans trial runs on the KR Pura–Iblur stretch by October 2026, followed by the Iblur–Central Silk Board stretch in December 2026.

BMRCL is targeting a September 2027 opening for the Hebbal–airport section. The remaining KR Pura–Hebbal stretch, which passes through Nagawara, is expected to open between December 2027 and March 2028.

A one-kilometre section between Hebbal and Kempapura has affected the schedule. BMRCL is building a three-pier portal structure there to carry four Metro tracks for a future interchange with the proposed Orange Line. Work along the traffic-heavy Outer Ring Road between Hebbal and Nagawara has also posed execution challenges.

The KR Pura–Hebbal section is the final part of the corridor scheduled to open, with a target window of December 2027 to March 2028.
