BESCOM moves electricity connection name transfers online

A change of name on a BESCOM electricity connection can now be completed online, from the application to the final e-signature.

Energy and tourism minister KJ George launched the paperless service in Bengaluru on Thursday. It is available in urban areas across BESCOM’s eight districts, including the Greater Bengaluru Area.

Consumers can begin an application on BESCOM’s web self-service portal, enter property and consumer details, upload documents, pay online, and complete e-stamping and e-signing digitally. The stated charges are ₹100 as a processing fee and ₹1,194 for e-stamp and e-sign services.

The digital process removes the need for applicants to visit neighbourhood sub-divisional offices. BESCOM has also done away with several documents previously sought for a name transfer, including sale deeds, property-tax receipts, indemnity bonds, no-objection certificates and supply agreements.

Once the process is completed, consumers can download the documents through the portal.
